Hey! You there! What are you doing? We got goals to reach girl and I know you’re not going to let a little cramp get in the way of that. Get up off that couch and let’s get this workout in! Don’t think I don’t see all those chocolates you’re stuffing in your mouth. Put that bag down and let’s go!
Man when it comes to my period and working out, I come up with all the excuses to get out of going to the gym.
“I’m too sleepy! Let me go ahead and get this nap in.”
“This stomach bloat is getting in the way!“
“Ooh the cramps! I am in too much pain to workout right now!”
“Those gummi worms look so good right now. It’s only one week out of the month. A little sugar won’t hurt.”
Ladies, ladies, LADIES! We gotta stop doing this to ourselves! Being on your period is not a good excuse or reason to veer off of this beautiful journey that we are on. We have goals to reach and a body to attain. If the ice cream man stops in your neighborhood with the “Pop goes the weasel” song blaring loudly are you going to stop and get some ice cream? The answer to that better question be a NO unless you ask that man to park a mile away from your house and eat that delicious ice cream while you JOG back to your home. That’s what I call a good workout right there! Eating your favorite treat while burning those calories off with a nice jog. On a serious note though, basically what I’m trying to get at is if you won’t stop to get ice cream from the ice cream truck then why would you not workout during your time of the month? It’s all about DICIPLINE and that’s the number one thing you need in order to carry out this fitness journey successfully. Work through those cramps and fight the urge to devour on your favorite snacks. Trust me, I know it’s hard because I’m going through it with you. There’s definitely been times where I want to give up and ride that long, painful week out without a literal care to give in the world. I promise you in the long term if you follow this advice I’m about to give, you will be glad that you listened to your ol’ pal Jazzy.
Keep It Light
Feeling tired? I know girl me too! Whenever aunt flo decides to pay a visit, all I want to do is sleep. I don’t care where I’m at or what time it is, just let me sleep! I don’t have the energy to anything and even the most menial of tasks just seems so hard to do. Look, feeling tired is no excuse to miss out on your workout. Wanna know a secret? DON’T GO SO HARD IN THE GYM. Seriously, if you’re not feeling your best, you won’t perform your best. Keep it light while keeping it tight! Don’t push yourself to get those remaining 30 minutes in if you’re going for a run. It’s OK to do a brisk walk and to cut your milage/time in half. As long as you’re moving and burning some of those calories off, thats all that matters. Another suggestion would be to try yoga or even dance. Both are not only stress relievers but they are also light and fun to do! Not sure where to start? YouTube has a plethora of light workouts for you to do. All you have to do is get up and get moving!
Those cravings are a pain to deal with during that time of the month. I don’t know about you all but I want all the sweets. I don’t even be hungry, I just get major cravings for something sweet to snack on. Donuts, candy bars, gummi worms, YOU NAME IT! Aunt flo always tries to do what she can to sabotage my diet and I get sick of it!
Just because Auntie Flo tells you to indulge in junk, doesn’t mean that you have to! Ignore those urges and stay on track. Remember, just because it looks good doesn’t mean you need it. I know that donut you just bought from Krispy Kreme (shame on you btw) sitting on your countertop looks good, especially with that warm, sugary, glaze dripping off of it but GIRL! Don’t do it! Let someone else eat it and reach for something healthier. For example:

Try a Fiber One bar; only 70 calories and if you have a clogged up bootyhole, trust me when I say it will help plunge all that nasty stuff out!
As cliche as it sounds, reach for a fruit instead. Your already getting that fruity flavor from the candy, might as well reach for the real thing without all the added calories and sugar.
Aht aht! You better not reach for that Pepsi that been sitting in the back of your fridge. Instead either drink some water or if you really have a taste for soda, try seltzer water or flavored carbonated water.
I could go on and give more examples, but hopefully this will be enough to help with those cravings.
Cramps?! What are those? Is that a new hair product or something?
You see what I did there, when it comes to those cramps or any other pain you may be dealing with (headaches…ugh!), play dumb and pretend like it’s not happening. Don’t let a little “CRAMPITY CRAMP” get in the way of your workout or body goals. Sure it may hurt a little but you’re a big girl! You can handle it! I know you can because if I can do it then so can you! See, aunt flo has an issue with us females and best believe it’s personal! Instead of being the nice, sweet aunt that we know she could be, she wants us to be miserable and suffer during that one week every month. Hence the pain and overall grossness that we experience. No pain, no gain right?! You got this girl! I believe in you!
That time of month may suck but with the right mindset it is absolutely possible to stick to your fitness goals. Trust me, I know, because I am going through it with you every month! Through all the pain, irritation, and craving that we experience every month, the best thing that you can it is absolutely push through it and put your best foot forward. I mean what is a little 30 light minute workout for you? No matter where your fitness level is I know you can do it! All you have to do is say:
“I CAN MAKE IT THOUGH THIS WORKOUT!”
“I CAN EAT HEALTHY!”
“I WILL GET THE BODY THAT I DESERVE AND DESIRE NO MATTER HOW MUCH PAIN I AM IN!”
