Achieving Happiness: 3 Reasons Why You Are Unhappy

Happiness is a state that we all seek to achieve and one of the basic aspirations of humans. If you find yourself unhappy and dissatisfied with life, there could be a variety of reasons why you may feel that way. In order to get out of the state of unhappiness, you must get to the bottom of what’s causing it and come up with a plan to get over that hurdle. We are all responsible for our own happiness and if that is what you want out of life then it can be easily attained with the right attitude. Listed below are 3 reasons why you may be unhappy.

You Feel Stuck

So you hate your job, you are not where you want to be financially, and feel like absolutely nothing is going your way. Everything sucks, the bills are starting to pile up, and all you want to do is break down and cry. If this feeling resonates with you at all, then I’d like to formally welcome you to the wonderful world of adulting! No one said being an adult is easy and there are definitely no cheat codes to type in to get through the struggles in life. We would all be millionaire’s living our best lives if we could just simply pull up a screen on our computers, type in “motherlode”, and have $50,000 automatically go to our bank accounts (for anyone who doesn’t understand, this is a “Sims” reference. To all my fellow Simmer’s out there HEY YA’LL!). Alas life doesn’t work this way and if this is how you currently feel, my question to you is what are you doing to take your life to the next level? If you are only doing the minimum, out here partying every night, and not taking any action necessary to fix this problem, then of course your going to stay stuck and will only have yourself to blame for it. Be proactive with bettering yourself by:

  • Furthering your education with either a college degree or pursuing a trade: Unless you still live with your parents or have roommates, with the way these bills are set up those dead end and minimum wage jobs don’t usually pay enough. If you want to get out of this cycle, either go to a 4 year college or learn a trade. Yes you can still be successful without a degree, but keep in mind you’ll have to put in YEARS of work before you end up landing a better job.
  • Invest in yourself: With each paycheck you receive, put at least $50 to $100.00 (if you can do more even better!) towards your savings account and don’t touch it! It may not seem like much at the moment but it will slowly start to build. Those funds can eventually be used to put a down payment towards a car, your dream home, or even start a business. The sky is the limit to what you can do with the money that you save up!
  • Leave the partying and those ain’t shit friends alone: This one is for all my young readers. There is nothing wrong with living your life up from your late teens to mid 20’s but keep in mind most of those friends that you have at the moment are only temporary and partying get’s old after a while. You may be having the time your life now but at the end of the day what do you have to show for it? If you can’t take care of yourself or afford life’s basic essentials, then it may be time to consider getting a second job or enroll in school. Remember, having the ability to drink, stay out all night, and do whatever you want does not make you an adult. It’s all about your mindset and doing what you have to do to make ends meet.

Your attitude towards life is all on you. Keep in mind that you are in charge of your own destiny and being an adult comes with lots of challenges. To overcome them, sometimes we have to do things that we don’t want to do in order to get to the next level. Push yourself to be the best you can be and in time all that hard work you put in will be rewarded!

You’re Too Pessimistic

If you are unhappy due to being pessimistic all the time, I’m sorry but you are causing your own unhappiness. Stop being so negative all the time and learn to look at the bright side of things. Bad days are an unfortunate part of life, you just have to learn to recover from these things and move on from them. Get out of your head and step into reality! If you have a roof over your head, food to eat, transportation and clothes on your back, then what is it that you really have to be mad about? Whether you realize it or not, you got it made! Stop letting the little things get to you and find ways to cope with the pain that you are dealing with. You will have no peace in life if you continue to think negatively about EVERYTHING. Learn to let things go and stop giving up when things get rough. Having a mindset like this won’t get you anywhere in life and in time you’ll find yourself wallowing in your own misery.

You Feel Alone

You do not need friends or a significant other to be happy! There is nothing wrong with being alone and sometimes it is honestly be the best way to be. Those friends that you think are friends can turn on in are heartbeat and jumping into a relationship to avoid that lonely feeling can be the worst thing you can do. Who really has time for all that in their lives? I mean, unless of course drama is your thing. Focus your attention on being happy and healthy instead of forcing relationships with others that usually end of being toxic anyway. Fix the relationship you have with yourself because when you are in this state, it’s obvious that you have no love for yourself at all. Learn to start doing things on your own and stop using the excuse that you don’t have anyone to go out with. Remember, you are unstoppable and can do bad all by yourself! You came into this world alone and don’t need to depend on anyone for your happiness!

If you are unhappy, you need to take a deep look into yourself and figure out why. Something is causing you distress and keeping you dissatisfied with life. Talking to someone about your problems can certainly help, but at the end of the day everything falls on you. Remember, you are in charge of your own life and happiness. Take the initiative to make a change and live the life that you deserve or continue to live your life in misery. The choice is yours!

I love this article! I think about the glass half full debate all the time, thinking why do i think it’s half empty when it’s not completely even. I try not to give into pessimistic thoughts. I’m also loving the idea of ditching the shitty friends, they do nothing and bring nothing to the table.

I definitely know the struggle of trying not to give in to pessimistic thoughts oh too well. I think of myself as a realist and I’ve come to learn that being negative about everything can keep you from living life to the fullest and you usually end up with less than desirable outcomes with the decisions you make from those negative thoughts.
