Imagine yourself living lavishly in the house of your dreams, an enormous amount of wealth and the ability to buy anything that you want. You got all of this without ever having to work a day in your life and you are just living it up! How you ask? Well in this fantasy world money literally grows on trees so keep on collecting money from the majestic Money Tree to build your wealth!
*POP* That’s what it sounds like when your thought bubble gets popped by the way. Sorry, I didn’t want to do it but I had to bring you back to reality. In a perfect world everything would be handed to us and there would be no worries whatsoever. However, in the real world, this is unfortunately not the case at all. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve come to realize one harsh truth and that would be that absolutely NOTHING is handed to you in life. In order to get the things that you want in life, you have to work hard for it and be the best that you can be. There is no longer anyone there to hold your hand and everything must be figured out on your own. When I came to this realization, it was a hard pill for me to swallow at first. Even though it sucks not having my parents doing everything for me anymore, being independent has molded me into the outstanding adult that I am today.
“When you get older, you’re going to wish you were a kid again…”
…Is something that my parents used to always say and I see what they mean now. I’ve been independent for quite some time but if I could go back to being a kid, I totally would. Forget all the bullying and boring classes, I just want to be the carefree kid I once was with no worries. The only real stress I felt I had back then besides of course homework and pop quizzes, was wondering what time Keenan and Kel or Slimetime Live would be coming on Television. To my 90’s babies, I know ya’ll remember Slime Time Live! Actually let me take ya’ll down memory lane even more! Remember when MTV actually showed music videos and not just pointless reality shows?! Cartoon Network actually showed good cartoons and Nickelodeon was the shizzle?! Those were definitely the good ol’ days! Man I wish I could go back in time!
Being adult has it’s perks but sometimes it can be quite overwhelming. From having to deal with bills, car payments, work, and making sure you have a roof over your head, it can all be too much at times. While I am definitely not where I want to be in life (far from it actually)…I am still proud to say I worked towards all of these things on my own. Eventually I will get to that place in life, but until then I will continue to work hard and do what I need to do in order to succeed. If I could give a word of advice to my younger self, it would be “Being an adult is overrated. Enjoy your youth while you can cuz sis this AIN’T IT!”
As sung by Junior (I may be 27, but I still love the old school!) “Mama used to say your time young man! Mama used to say don’t you rush to get old!”
